How ERP Meets the Challenge of Uncertainty

Posted on 12 July 2016 by Cathie Hall

cathie_challenge_of_uncertainty.jpgThere is no doubt that, globally, these are uncertain times.  From the UK’s surprise Brexit decision to the election in Australia and of course the Clinton vs. Trump campaign in the US.  Whatever side of politics you find yourself on, there is no doubt that politic uncertainty and economic uncertainty go hand in hand.  Macro-economic uncertainty then feeds down to company level and we get trading uncertainty.

Posted on 26 May 2016 by Cathie Hall

cathie_erp_factory_of_the_future.jpgThere’s no doubt that the global manufacturing industry is evolving at a rapid pace. During SYSPRO’s time exhibiting at MACH 2016, the UK’s largest manufacturing and machine tool trade show, and at our SYSPRO Europe company day, we have been looking closely at the future of the sector with one question in mind – where does ERP fit into the factory of the future?

4 Ways to Maximize the Value of your ERP

Posted on 8 March 2016 by Cathie Hall

cathie_maximize_the_value_of_your_erp.jpgYesterday afternoon I had a phone call from a relatively new customer, James Briggs, who ‘went live’ with SYSPRO a few months ago. “Right,” the CFO said, “we need you to come in and talk to us about how we can really start to use SYSPRO now.”

The Art of The Possible

Posted on 21 January 2016 by Cathie Hall

angela_the_art_of_the_possible.jpgLike most products and services influenced by technology, ERP has evolved rapidly over the years.

It’s no longer just about sales orders, manufacturing resource planning (MRP) or works order processing. It has become more about developing a complete understanding of the customer’s needs and providing a system that is more responsive, more flexible and better able to offer a comprehensive and effective user experience.

5 ERP Selection Tips for a Harmonious Partnership

Posted on 29 October 2015 by Cathie Hall

My comparison of an ERP solution to a marriage has been met with varying degrees of skepticism over the years. For those of you who feel that it’s a tenuous link, let me ask you two questions:

Could you be charmed by an enticing vision crafted by a salesperson? Could you be influenced by your people who get along with the people at your ERP vendor?

Exactly. A relationship forged by your heart and not your head. A bit like marriage, right?

Whichever way you chose to make your decision, here are some common errors you should steer clear of when when going through an ERP section process:

Why your ERP people are as critical as your ERP product

How can ERP service help manufacturers realize their strategic goals?

Vendors continually invest in their products to ensure world class functionality by talking to those companies that excel in their respective industries.  Typically, the focus is on creating a sophisticated and robust product that is able to solve complex business problems.  However, with a multi-faceted solution, implementation and support issues can create potential disparities.

The IT Women

Posted on 4 August 2015 by Cathie Hall

cathie_women_in_ITWomen are still under represented in the IT community, whether in management, project, consultancy, infrastructure, technical or development roles.  Big tech companies like Google, Apple, Microsoft all hover around the 70:30 male to female ratio mark.  However, it doesn’t appear to be a selection issue, more a recruitment issue.  From my own experience, and that of many of my female colleagues, the IT sector generally fails to appeal to women.

Tips on Optimizing Procurement

Posted on 7 April 2015 by Cathie Hall

cathie_procurementIt’s a long time since the sales team got all the glamour and recognition for being the business heroes, now it’s just as likely that the buyers are out celebrating with the champagne. The impact of procurement to the profitability and sustainability of a business is dramatic.  Consider a distribution business with a revenue turnover of $100m with a cost of sales of $70m and operating costs of $20m, net profit is $10m. A 1% decrease on the cost of sales translates to a whopping 7% increase in net margin.

The Perfect Partner in ERP

Posted on 3 February 2015 by Cathie Hall

cathie_perfect_erp_partnerRegular readers of the blog may remember my post “owning change” written just after my wedding in November 2013.  It doesn’t take a maths genius to work out that it took me a few more years than most to find my perfect partner.  Fortunately finding the perfect partner in ERP wasn’t so difficult.  I first saw SYSPRO in 2001 and have been a dedicated fan ever since.
