SYSPRO Canada has recently compiled a report covering manufacturing innovation in Atlantic Canada and in compiling this report I got to thinking about the relationships we have built over the years with our channel partners and our customers, and our continued success in retaining these customers. In this current economic environment, and more specifically in the fast-paced, constantly changing business software market there aren’t too many businesses that can proudly point to client retention rates of 98%.

When to put your ERP system in the cloud

Posted on 7 November 2013 by Andy Latham

ERP-system-in-the-cloudThe other week I was at a friend’s house having a barbeque when his granddaughter ran out of the house clutching my friend’s iPad asking (in a way that only 4 year old girls can) to watch Peppa Pig. My friend’s reaction was to tell her to put the TV on but the demand came back “NO! On my pad, on my pad”. I watched with interest as my friend downloaded a TV App on to the iPad and showed his granddaughter how to watch Peppa Pig in the garden whilst we continued to cook our lunch.

The Future of Manufacturing Technology

Posted on 17 October 2013 by Simon Griffiths

future-of-manufacturingIt used to be that manufacturing was only considered important in emerging economies. Recently, however, analysts groups and influential business publications have started discussing the significance of a new wave of manufacturing that will pervade all economies. It’s what IDC call the Factory of the Future, and The Economist describes as the Third Industrial Revolution. It is also being advocated by an industry group – the 'Smart Manufacturing Leadership Coalition'.

Leveraging Your ERP System to Manage Materials, Costs and Cash Part 1

Posted on 21 February 2013 by Erin Schlee

leveraging-your-ERP-systemAlbert Einstein was one of the greatest minds of the 20th Century, but few of us know that not only was he a pragmatic and astonishing theorist, but also a very spiritual and personable person, who was very much in touch with music, love and life.

SYSPRO has a very similar persona. We have been supplying manufacturers and distributors with the latest and greatest in ERP for over 30 years. The cornerstone of our success has been the ability to deliver this pragmatic visionary technology, while at the same time placing the customer relationship at the helm of everything we do.

The Social Enterprise – The Newest Tool for Manufacturers and Distributors?

Posted on 4 September 2012 by Erin Schlee

As the Social Media Specialist for SYSPRO USA, I am always on the lookout for new trends and updates in the social media world, especially how these trends impact the manufacturing and distribution industries. I’m a firm believer that Social Media is one of the greatest tools a company can use for engagement with customers and consumers. I once had a colleague here ask me if I think organizations will ever adopt social media as a way for employees to communicate internally.

Cloud not ready for ERP in manufacturing

Posted on 30 August 2012 by Kevin Dherman

While cloud computing is one of the latest trends in the IT industry, the delivery of computing and storage capacity as a service is not that new. In fact, some of the underlying concepts of cloud computing date back to the 1970s with users accessing mainframes via thin clients or terminal computers.

Mapping ERP systems to manufacturing needs

Posted on 31 July 2012 by Wouter Combrinck

Given the importance of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, many manufacturers might find selecting the right one for their needs to be an overwhelming experience.

Successful manufacturers are able to tailor their ERP systems to react to market trends and pull the information required to make business-critical decisions timeously. For the most part, they rely on vendors that can become their partners in the ongoing drive for great efficiencies and profitability.

ERP – The Extra Responsive Pedestal

Posted on 15 February 2012 by Wouter Combrinck

When I first saw Steven Spielberg’s masterpiece, ET – The Extra-Terrestrial, I was fascinated by its simple yet profound storyline. ET, an alien of sorts, ends up alone on Planet Earth when his fellow aliens accidentally leave him behind after a visit in their space ship. Unlike the children in the story, the adults are obsessed with the order, structures and habits they perceive as ‘normal’ and become his worst enemies, hell-bent on destroying him. Meanwhile, all ET wants to do is “phone home” for his friends to come and fetch him from the inhospitable planet.

Lumbering Through Waste Reduction

Lumbering Through Waste Reduction

Recently I was watching one of those “how things are made” TV shows which featured a saw mill. I was amazed at the vast range of waste factors eating away at the profits of the hardworking lumber millers. From the felling of the tree to the final delivery of sawn timber products to their customers, their raw material is whittled down to a fraction of the original volume.
