Innovation Hot Topic at Davos and Closer to Home

Posted on 21 February 2017 by Paulo de Matos

paulo_innovation_hot_topic_at_davos_and_closer_to_home.jpgOne of the key points made at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos recently was the need to drive global economic growth through the pursuit of innovation. This pursuit also forms part of our Product Roadmap for SYSPRO moving into 2017 and beyond.

Mastering the Data Ecosystem with ERP

Posted on 16 February 2017 by Rob Hurry

rob_mastering_the_data_ecosystem.jpgThe control and ownership of data and metadata is fast becoming a contentious issue. The value of both is rapidly increasing. While crunching data allows you to derive business intelligence to make better informed decisions, analyzing metadata allows you to identify specific behavioral patterns.

It's 2017, Reflect Yes, But Start Moving Forward Too

Posted on 9 February 2017 by Doug Hunter

Doug Hunter - Moving ForwardIt’s 2017. Another year, wipe the slate clean and start again - what's new? Well the world just changed. In the West, the East and in Africa. A popular US president leaves a manila envelope in the desk drawer for the heir-apparent who's about to move in. No, it's not a wad of currency, a Kenyan passport or the utility bill. This is the world where a real man tries to pass his baton of advice to his successor rather than club his opponent with it.

VPN Tunnels – Increasing Security, Promoting Agility

Posted on 7 February 2017 by Alistair Brough

alistar_vpn_tunnels_increasing_security_promoting_agility.jpgThere are days when I feel like throwing up my hands and declaring the phrase ‘Internet security’ to be an oxymoron, like ‘unbiased opinion’, ‘exact estimate’ and the classic ‘military intelligence’.

How to Write a Good SRS Report

Posted on 31 January 2017 by Don Stimson (Guest Blogger)

don_how_to_write_a_good_srs_reportMany SYSPRO customers think of me as ‘the report guy’. Odd as it may seem, I’ve always loved writing reports. I also enjoy helping SYSPRO users learn to write better reports. Over the course of many years I’ve realized that there are six main points that should be considered when writing reports that are both informative and easy to digest.

joey_6-trends_of_2017.jpgERP remains the backbone of any medium or large business. This is set to remain true looking ahead. Mobile Apps are so 2016!

Posted on 12 January 2017 by Kevin Dherman

kevin_mobile_app_so_2016.jpgSteve Jobs’ original vision was not for static apps, but rather services that could be accessed as needed. This vision is now starting to take shape with PWAs (for all you non-techies...Progressive Web Apps).

Keeping your ERP Resolutions

Posted on 4 January 2017 by Cathie Hall

cathie_keeping_your_erp_resolutions.jpgWe all start the year with good intentions of what we will and won’t do, but by mid-January most of us have already broken our resolutions.  As a long distance runner I spend many hours running long distances, and many more training.  I train when it’s cold, dark, wet and windy.  I train when I am on holiday.  I train when I probably should be asleep.  I also need to think about what I need to do to support my training: strength work in the gym, my diet, getting enough sleep, not drinking too much.  The reward comes though when I enter an event and reach my goal.  Not only do I measure success in terms of achieving a specific goal – e.g. running from Edinburgh to Glasgow (which is the challenge for March 2017), it’s also about the positive benefits running has on all aspects of my life.

A SYSPRO Year-End Checklist

Posted on 8 December 2016 by Tracey Gates

tracey_a_SYSPRO_year_end_checklist.jpgChristmas comes but once a year, and the same is true of a year-end. For many of us, both occasions present organizational challenges. On the home front, we agonise over what to buy and spend hours trying to keep the dog from eating the tinsel. At work, we rack up stress points as we close out the year, wondering what reports to generate in SYSPRO, what balance functions to run, which GL Integration programs to check, and whether we should deselect the ‘Close Application’ option when processing year-end only. (Yes! You should!)

UX is No Longer Optional

Posted on 6 December 2016 by Kevin Dherman

kevin_ux_is_no_longer_optional.jpgHistorically, enterprise software has had a captive audience. Over the past two decades little has been required to engage users. The very existence of a solution was generally enough for businesses to make use of it. This is no longer the case, with users becoming implicitly more savvy to what is and isn’t user friendly. This has mostly been spurred by easy access to things like consumer applications, increasing the level of end user expectation.
