Flexible ERP Delivering Value

Posted on 28 April 2015 by Meryl Malcomess

meryl_valuing_the_relationshipRecently, a colleague’s daughter travelling between South Africa, England and the US bought, a return train ticket for £48 but missed the departing train due to a flight delay. The result: she was charged the full price of a new ticket (£65), even though she was still going to be catching the return train – and even though the train was almost empty.

Tips on Optimizing Procurement

Posted on 7 April 2015 by Cathie Hall

cathie_procurementIt’s a long time since the sales team got all the glamour and recognition for being the business heroes, now it’s just as likely that the buyers are out celebrating with the champagne. The impact of procurement to the profitability and sustainability of a business is dramatic.  Consider a distribution business with a revenue turnover of $100m with a cost of sales of $70m and operating costs of $20m, net profit is $10m. A 1% decrease on the cost of sales translates to a whopping 7% increase in net margin.

New SYSPRO 7 enhancements

Posted on 31 March 2015 by Darren Edwards

darren_new_syspro7_enhancementsAs we hurtle towards the end of March I find myself reflecting back on the first quarter of the year – wondering where it’s gone and what the rest of the year has in store.  I’m sure this year has gone quicker than usual and I am sure there are many of you out there feeling the same.

Why you Should Choose a Two Tier ERP Solution

Posted on 26 March 2015 by Dave Cavan

dave_c_two_tier_erpDean knew that there had to be a better way.

He’d been in manufacturing long enough to know that the millions of dollars and army of consultants that was being readied to integrate his operation with the parent company was a huge waste.

The worst part was that the standardized processes that his division was going to have to adopt were poorly suited to the facility.

Spending millions to reduce efficiency was a decision that he had to fight.

So he started doing his research…

The iCan Device 2

Posted on 24 March 2015 by Phil Duff

phil_customization_enabling_technologiesGiven the ongoing debate around customization and ERP, and which I think is well-summed up in a previous SYSPRO blog, I am thinking of developing a new and revolutionary handheld device. It will be called the iCan – aptly named to leverage off a famous fruit company's brand. This is truly a neat device, if I may say so myself. It’s powered by brain waves rather than the more conventional battery (which is oh-so last century technology), and has a touch screen that responds appropriately to any part of your body - not just your finger.

Be Part of the Circular Economy

Posted on 12 March 2015 by Tiffany Gierke

tiffany_recycling_your_productDeath. It’s guaranteed, the one thing we can’t avoid. Its imminent arrival sparks many emotions, debates, rites and rituals. People spend thousands each year on funeral policies and think up elaborate last wills and testaments to plan for what will happen to them once the grim reaper has paid them a visit.

With so much time, energy and expense invested in what happens after we die, I was wondering if business owners think about what happens to their products that “die”. Do their products need to die at all? We are all familiar with recycling, but this often entails individuals or other companies transforming your product into something else. Why? It is YOUR product after all. Your hard work, your money-maker.

From Papua, with ERP

Posted on 5 March 2015 by Paulo de Matos

paulo_papua_to_erpThe sun was setting steadily on the steamy horizon. Its rays penetrated the mist covered mountains projecting beams of light settling on broad-leaf equatorial landscapes. Through the trees, there was the sound of cackling noisy pitta’s and the hissing of insects. Nature’s sounds were temporarily disturbed by the thud of our 4x4 hitting rough patches whilst dodging and dancing avoiding potholes, the size of which we could easily hide our 4x4 inside.

Business Objects for Non-Programmers

Posted on 22 May 2014 by Odete Passingham

business_objects

If you have come across any SYSPRO resource for technical users, you have probably encountered the phrase ‘business object’, and related phrase, ‘service oriented architecture (SOA)’.

While you don’t need to be an expert on business objects, it is worthwhile to have a basic understanding of what they are and what they do, so that you can understand why they make SYSPRO a flexible product.
