Have you ever been lost in an application? Or frustrated because you are unable to find what is required from you within an application? How many times have you been scrutinizing the screen to find the ‘missing’ item resulting in conflicting feelings between relief and foolishness because the placement of the missing item was just not that apparent.

Mobility covers many facets of life. It could describe cargo transportation or people bussing to and from work. What about displacing people to other areas or countries to avoid natural/political problems? We could also talk about the propensity of people to live and work in many countries – true global citizens.

If you’ve recently made the decision to empower your workforce with mobility, then you know that the list of benefits for both business and employees is endless.

And if you haven’t – then you may well be among the 43.2% of local companies, which according to The Mobile Corporation in South Africa 2018, plan to include more mobile software in their tech infrastructure.

I have always seen applications or websites as transacting tools.  An exchange is happening between myself and the application, I give it information and it returns information.  Justin Davis, a UX expert, explained that if we develop applications as if we are discussing a topic with a user, the user experience will improve.  I could not see how studying conversations will benefit a user’s experience when using an application and was intrigued but this statement.  He made some very valid points in this UX Salon presentation, Designing Better Conversations / Justin Davis

There were three points he highlighted:

• Be easy to talk to (e.g. screen/options etc. should be clear and easily found)
• Be polite (e.g. error messages or validations should be friendly)
• Be attentive (e.g. enhance the user experience by being suggestive to the relevant task and process)

So, you’re expecting a very Merry Christmas this year? With the increase in business set to pour through your door, planning is incredibly important, not only because of the high demand, but also because of the amount of admin that comes with it. Take for instance Samantha, who owns a medium sized bakery. She knows this all too well; planning and being prepared for the festive season is much better than trying to find solutions along the way. By having a detailed plan and scheduling how she will manage her business before the holiday rush sets in, she can rest easy knowing she will be off to a good start.
