When asked what I do for a living, I always answer, “I’m in IT” and I find it is quite the conversation stopper. Perhaps the person upon hearing my answer is picturing me hunched over a smoking keyboard furiously coding in some odd-ball language, and is afraid to push any further. In reality, I am in education and this just happens to be in an IT company. And education plays a key role.

During my weekly house cleaning routine, I found myself thinking of customers who should be “cleaning” their systems on a regular basis.
Unfortunately, there is no such thing as a ‘Good Data-Housekeeping Seal of Approval’, but I am quite certain that there ought to be. Many of the five-alarm fires I respond to at the Support Desk could have been avoided with a healthy dash of daily, very basic routine.
